BUTTER CARGO
Delay Again In Loading (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 21. Bad weather and mechanical failures today delayed further the loading of butter into the Otaki after the settlement of a dispute over the number of men to be used in the operation. The dispute, which lasted three days, was settled yesterday when the chairman of the Port Conciliation Committee (Brigadier F. L. Hunt) agreed in an interim decision to four men instead of two being used on the wharf . Today, however, flat batteries on the fork-lift trucks used to lift the pallets of butter delayed loading in the morning. In the afternoon rain stopped work from midday onwards. The Otaki is loading 350 tons of butter. In giving his decision, Brigadier Hunt alleged that some watersiders had shown a lack of co-operation in the butterloading demonstration arranged for the committee. The union had no comment to make on the allegation. The Port Conciliation Committee will again view the new butter-loading technique on Tuesday morning.
