Munich Tipped
(N.Z. Press Association) LAUSANNE. Munich is given the best chance of getting the 1972 Olympic Games, according to informed sources in Lausanne, headquarters of the International Olympic Committee. The decision will be made by the LO.C. in a meeting in Rome in April, United Press international reported. When applications closed yesterday four candidates were in the running for the summer Games in 1972 — Detroit, Montreal, Munich and Madrid. Detroit, which has applied several times, has been downgraded by 1.0. C. members as a “city of factories” and is considered unsuitable. Montreal’s chances are considered equally slim. Two earlier candidates, Vienna and Amsterdam, withdrew their provisional applications. Informed sources tip Banff for the Winter Games. Sapporo, Japan, and Salt Lake City have also been accepted as candidates and the 1.0. C. has to decide if a fourth, Lahti, Finland, should be accepted.
