Obituary MR S. C. GURNEY
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 6. A design engineer, Mr S. C. Gurney, who died last week at Lower Hutt, has left his own distinctive memorials in New Zealand.
Mr Gurney was for 28 years on the head office staff of the Ministry of Works, retiring last year as the senior designing engineer.
He was a member of the New Zealand Institute of Engineers, the Institute of Welding, and the Institution of Structural Engineers, London.
His imaginative designs reached a peak in the challenges of war time when he produced designs for reinforced fuel-storage tanks for use by all the armed forces in New Zealand and the Pacific at a time when steel was not obtainable.
