Taylor Out, Burtt In
The Canterbury allrounder, B. R. Taylor, who injured a hamstring muscle in the match with Wellington, which ended yesterday, will be out of cricket for three weeks. Taylor will return home to Timaru today. His place in the Canterbury team has been taken by the young St. Albans player, J. W. Burtt, whose only previous appearance in first-class cricket was for the New Zealand under 23 team against Canterbury last summer. Burtt is a stylish right-hand batsman and right-hand legbreak bowler.
Canterbury’s next match is against Central Districts tomorrow and Burtt will fly north today to join the team. The pitch at Pukekura Park, New Plymouth, where the match will be played, has a reputation for assisting spin bowling, which should strengthen Central Districts’ chances, with B. W. Yuile, M. E. Chapple and V. Pollard in the team.
But Canterbury also has good spinners, for P. A. Sharp is almost sure to play in this game, with the left-hander, J. M. Mclntyre, and Burtt. It seems likely that one of Canterbury’s out-of-form batsmen—l. R. Hartland, B. G. Hadlee or D. L. Gallop—will be dropped to make v'ay for Burtt and Sharp.
