A six-man gang beat the world record of approximately 2000 by shearing 2133 sheep in a nine-hour day on Mr P. Murphy’s Panikau station. Whangara, on the East Coast today. Starting at 5 a.m. the gang shore 1660 and 473 hoggets carrying eight months’ wool up to 5 p.m. The 85 degrees temperature in Gisborne was tempered by a breeze at Panikau, but two of the shearers affected by cramp had to stand down in the afternoon The individual tallies were. M. Anderson 431. E. Malyon 382, R. Alabaster 351. J. Conn 326, T. Wood 324. and D. Best 319.
