Rhinos Are Tamer
Mr Charles Fourle, Krugersdorps game ranger, will get £4O “danger” allowance to pay the premiums on a £5OOO insurance policy covering him in the event of death or injury while handling rhinos. “I think it is the safest investment that any insurance company has ever had,” Charlie said. “If a man is clever enough and does not take chances, I cannot see how he can get hurt”
Krugersdorp Town Council agreed by eight votes to three to pay Mr Fourie the bonus annually. Mr T. Potgieter said that it was “little enough to insure the life of the man who has *made' the game reserve.”
In the last six months, the reserve has had more than 50,000 visitors. “The rhinos are becoming tamer all the time,” said Mr Fourie. “They are like domesticated dogs and follow me around. If a man has a love for an animal, and gains its confidence and avoids unnecessary risks, he will never have any trouble—even if it is a rhino.”
