REMANDED

Michael John Heath, aged 19, a book salesman, charged with theft of two suitcases and contents worth £4O on December 29, was remanded in custody until today. Richard Bernard McKernan, aged 43, a fishmonger, was remanded on bail until today on a charge of assaulting a policeman on December 29. A youth, whose name was suppressed, was remanded on bail to January 7 on a charge of unlawfully taking a car on December 29.

Brian James Jacobsen, aged 18, charged with unlawfully getting into a car on December 29, was remanded on bail to January 7. Thomas John Murray, aged 19, was remanded on bail to January 7 on a charge of unlawfully getting into a car on December 29. Brian Francis Johns, aged 19, charged with unlawfully taking a car on December 24, was remanded in custody to today.

FOUND DRUNK

Charged with being found drunk in a public place on December 29, John Roache, aged 64, a painter, was convicted and fined £2. He pleaded guilty by letter. He was a statutory second offender.

MINISTER FOR 50 YEARS

The Rev. C. A. Venz

The Rev. C. A. Venz, of Christchurch, will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of his ministry in the Evangelical Lutheran Church on Sunday.

He was ordained in the Concordia Lutheran Seminary in Adelaide on January 2. 1916. He has served in four parishes—Denial Bay (South Australia), Yilgandra (New South Wales), Point Pirie (South Australia), and Upper Moutere, near Nelson, since 1931, For about 20 years Mr Venz was president of the Lutheran Church in New Zealand. He retired from the ministry in 1964, but has continued to assist in various New Zealand parishes during the absence of permanent ministers.

The Rev. G. Nodler, of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Christchurch, will acknowledge Mr Venz’s anniversary after the 11 a.m. service on Sunday. There will also be an informal social gathering at the manse in the evening.
