SYDNEY. The Wimbledon champion, Roy Emerso<', said he might not be available to play in next year’s challenge round at Kooyong. “I think it’s about time I stepped down and let some of the younger players take over,” Emerson said. “I don’t know whether I will be available or not,” Emerson said. “I am losing my keenness and it does not matter too much to me now whether I win or lose my matches. “I am not worried about the loss to Manuel and that’s part of my trouble. “I have been thinking about this for some time now and today’s loss has nothing to do with the way I feel.”
The chances of Emerson not being available for next year’s challenge round will surprise tennis officials.
He was regarded as the player who would be the pillar of the Australian cup defence which is expected to be against the young and eager American team.
