Husband, Wife In Finals

WELLINGTON.

A husband and wife combination will contest the men’s and women’s singles titles at the New Zealand Catholic tennis championships at Central Park. R. J. Wong will seek his sixth successive men’s singles title, and seventh in total, and his wife, Mrs M. Wong, will seek her first women’s singles title. This is the third time she has reached the final.

Wong will meet P. G. Kelly, of Manawatu, and Mrs Wong will play Miss C. McLauchlan, of Hutt Valley. To get into the semi-final, Kelly outlasted W. Thom, of Canterbury, in two prolonged sets, 10-8, 12-10, with Thom holding a set point in the tenth game of the second set. Another Canterbury player, J. Martin, was eliminated in a quarter-final by N. Munro, 3-0, 6-8. Munro later lost to Kelly The second seeds in the men’s doubles, R. J. Keenan and N. Munro, were beaten by Martin and Thom in three sets. Martin and Thom meet the top seeds, O’Carroll and Kelly in the final tomorrow.
