WANTS A HUSBAND

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 30. Overseas girls may be hazy about geographic localities in the South Pacific. But they know where the boys are—in New Zealand.

Judging by the letters the girls of Europe and the United Kingdom write to the Auckland Public Relations Office the scenic beauties of New Zealand are greatly admired.

The main attraction of the country, however, is the much-publicised male surplus. This is what tempts the letter writers. Miss Joan Tuck, of the Public Relations Office, said today that many single women from overseas write to the office for information about living conditions and job opportunities in New Zealand.

Most of these inquiries were prompted by overseas articles that referred to a surplus of males in New Zealand.

“We usually tell them that the surplus applies in country areas like Tokoroa and Kawerau where townships have grown up around industries,” said Miss Tuck. “There are meh of all nationalities in these places. The Public Relations Office does not paint too glowing a picture about the male surplus. “We can hardly rave about it,” said Miss Tuck. “We’ve got three unmarried women in the office here for a start.”

The latest inquiry the office is handling is from Miss Use Branthin, of Spenerstrasse 34, Frankfurt-on-Main, West Germany.

Miss Branthin writes

“Please excuse my taking your time with my private matters, but I should be so very thankful for your help. I learnt that your country has a shortage of women, and as it is just the contrary in Ger-

many, owin gto the war. I do not find a husband like so many girls my age here. “I know that especially the North Island of New Zealand is a wonderful country with a lovely climate and I should love to live there and marry a New Zealander. “I am 41 years old, but as you can see from the photos I send I do not look like it. “I have a job here with a chemical company and can speak and write fluent English and Spanish. “I am sft lOin, weigh 178 pounds, have a good figure and am trained to a good housewife.”
