Outpost Falls

(N.Z .P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) SAIGON, Dec. 30. Viet Cong guerrillas early today launched their second attack in 24 hours on a South Vietnamese district headquarters. A massed force of at least 300 men struck at the Dai Loc district town and hill outpost, 14 miles south-west of Da Nang with heavy mortar and small arms fire. Half an hour later radio contact was lost and the outpost reported overrun. Latest reports indicated the town had not fallen and air strikes had been flown in continuously since daybreak. A small force of local militia was still reported clinging on to two outposts close to the district headquarters overrun yesterday at Minh Long. 70 miles south of Da Nang. A spotter aircraft flew over the are? late yesterday and reported the district headquarters itself was deserted. There was no immediate word on the occupants or guards. Late yesterday a United States marine corps A 4 Skyhawk jet was apparently shot down by guerrilla ground fire and the pilot killed.
