(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 29. The R.N.Z.A.F. and Royal New Zealand Navy would maintain a close liaison in policing the 12-mile fishing zone which would com# Into effect on Saturday, the Minister of Marine (Mr Scott) said in Auckland today. “They have been issued with general instructions on the extended fishing zone limits and procedures to adopt in policing the zones,” he said.
The Minister said that R.N.Z.A.F. aircraft spotting a Japanese trawler apparently within the new territorial limits would immediately advise the departments of Marine and External Affairs. These departments would then consider what action should be taken.
He said a Government announcement would be made “in the next few days" on the result of talks with Japanese officials now in Wellington. He said he preferred not to comment on the Japanese suggestion of appealing to the International Court of Justice.
