FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A deep and slow moving depression is centred south of the South Island; a cold south-westerly airstream flows over New Zealand. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Strong westerly winds with occasional changes to south-westerlies; further showers about the ranges and scattered showers at times in other areas; cold with snow about 2000 feet. Outlook. —Changeable with showers.

Marlborough.—Cool westerly winds, strong and squally at times and turning occasionally to the south-west; showers near the western ranges but elsewhere variable skies with scattered showers; snow in the mountains. Outlook. —The disturbed south-west-erly airstream is likely to continue.

Nelson.—Cold south-westerlies; showers in the ranges spreading occasionally to other areas; snow above 3000 feet. Outlook. —A disturbed south-westerly airstream is likely to continue.

Buller and Westland.—Strong southwesterlies; further showers with occasional hail; cold with snow above 2000 feet. Outlook.—Changeable.
