CAMPS AT BEACHES
Some Booked Out
Holiday-makers from Christchurch and further afield have been crowding into beach camp sites around Pegasus Bay since Friday, and some camp caretakers reported yesterday that they were booked out.
Many more are expected to arrive with their tents and caravans today. At several beaches the traditional galas and bathing beauty contests entertained campers yesterday, and annual holiday dances were held in some community halls last night Camp sites at Kairaki Beach were said to be “absolutely jammed,” the Leithfield Beach camp was fully booked, and Waikuku, where there have bee® many improvements since last summer, had more campers than usual. Although the weather has been overcast campers have not yet been plagued by rain, and hundreds of picnickers joined them at the beaches yesterday.
