£600 Theft Of Rings

NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 27. Thieves took diamond rings worth £6OO in a smash and grab raid in central New Plymouth at the week-end. Twenty-five rings were taken from Brownson Jewellers, Ltd., 12 Devon street, after a large brick was used to smash through a heavy plate glass display window in a small foyer beside the main entrance to the shop. Detective-Sergeant G. Hogan said today that the break was made between 1 p.m. on Christmas Day and 5.10 a.m. today. Some of the rings were contained in small boxes. Detectives are also investigating the smashing of a window at the rear of Teed’s Chemists, Ltd., 56 Devon street, New Plymouth, between 7.55 p.m. yesterday and 9.45 this morning. “As far as we can ascertain, nothing was stolen,” said Detective - Sergeant Hogan.
