COURSE DOUBLE
Dividend Of £43
Linkwood Lady and Milford Nurse formed the winning oncourse doubles combination at Ashburton yesterday, the return for £1 being £43 ss. Linkwood Lady was in the first six throughout the McLean Handicap. Double Step set most of the pace, and she shaded On Probation and Linkwood Lady at the furlong post, with Blue Pin and Toff Scott handy. Linkwood Lady and On Probation had a keen struggle, with Linkwood Lady doing best to win by a length. On Probation, which received the run of the race, was a head in front of Hialea, with Fireaway making ground for fourth after being near the tail of the field at the half-mile and receiving a check when Happy Wanderer and Faltuna fell at the furlong post. Milford Nurse made amends for some rather disappointing racing at times this season with a good win in the Mitcham Handicap. She was back in the middle of the field until late in the race and ran the last furlong out much too strongly for her rivals. She won by a length and a half from Cleome, which shaded Remember When and a solid finisher in Madam Scott. The others, headed by Rough Sea, were well beaten.
