CAKE-SHOP WORKERS
Wage Increase Granted (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 27. Minimum wage rates for cake-shop assistants are increased under a new award based on conciliation between the New Zealand Federated Shop Assistants’ Union and Ernest Adams. Ltd., of Christchurch, and others.
The increases, retrospective to December 1. range from 4s to 9s a week for males under 21, 4s lOd to 9s 8d for females under 16, 9s 2d for females 21 and over, and 14s for males 21 and over.
Weekly wages range from £4 18s 4d and £4 6s for males and females respectively under 16 to £ll 17s and £8 15s for males and females respectively aged 20 to 21, and £l4 15s and £lO for males and females respectively of 21 and over. Casual assistants are to be paid at the rate of not less than 7s lOd an hour for adult males and 5s 7d an hour for adult females, 5s 7d an hour for junior males and 4s 8d an hour for junior females, with a minimum of three hours* payment for any one day.
