B Team Out For 130
The Canterbury B cricket team made a disappointing start to its three-match tour when it was dismissed by Marlborough for 130 at Blenheim yesterday. At the close of play, Marlborough had gained " very strong position, having scored 161 for five wickets.
The bait came through at unpredictable heights and, on a dusty wicket, the Canterbury players were quickly forced on to the defensive. Four wickets were lost for 45 runs and only J. W. Burtt, with some resolute batting, stayed any length Of time. D. J. Crisp, the opening bowler, did the most damage and was able to make the ball lift disconcertingly from a good length. The Canterbury bowlers were not able to extract the same life from the wicket although they bowled steadily After J. H. M. Dawson had taken a wicket with his first ball, W. Garrod took control and displayed forceful shots all around the wicket to guide Marlborough past Canterbury’s total.
