WOMEN’S CRICKET
Captain Has Top Score (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 27. With one century scored, and four other batsmen getting more than 50 runs, bowlers had to work hard for their wickets on the opening day yesterday of the women's Hallyburton Johnstone shield cricket tournament at Auckland.
The century was scored by the Wellington captain, P. McKelvey, in the match against the Combined XL
The newly-promoted North Shore side began well against Canterbury, taking five wickets for 62 runs. Then a halfcentury by P. Blackler put Canterbury on top and by stumps North Shore, six wickets for 34, was in difficulties. Scores:
