1500 TRAFFIC NOTICES GIVEN
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Dec. 27. So far this holiday 1581 traffic offence notices have been issued. Seventy-one drunken motorists were apprehended by officers of the Transport Department. Keys were taken from 77 drinking drivers.
Transport Department officers were pleased with the standard of driving and reported that drivers were generally behaving well. The Transport Department said the drop in road deaths over Christmas appeared to show a genuine effort by mo-
torists to co-opefate to make roads safe.
The Chief Superintendent (Mr J. C. C. Edwards) who is checking traffic throughout the North Island, reported from Napier that on the average traffic was well behaved and motorists were keeping their speeds down.
