'Cambodia Prepared For Invasion’
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) PHNOM PENH (Cambodia), Dec. 27. Prince Norodom Sihanouk claimed today the United States was preparing to invade Cambodia.
In a four-hour speech to the National Congress, he said: “The facts and the events are grave. We are seeing a new version of the Japanese coups de force of 1941, with a difference, however. “The United States is substituting itself for Japan and Thailand. As in 1941 we are seeing prepared the invasion of Cambodia by the American successors of the Japanese militarists.
“As in 1941, the first act of the invaders will be to cut up our country. Several provinces will be given as a reward to Thailand, others to the Saigon puppets. “But I proclaim that this plan will not be realised, because we are ready to fight. We have the means to defend ourselves and powerful friends.”
Prince Sihanouk added that Cambodia “now is part of the American programme of escalation (of the war) in our region." He referred to reports that American forces in South
Vietnam were considering pursuing Viet Cong guerrillas if they escaped into Cambodia.
