Wool Price Increases
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Dec. 26.
The average price of greasy wool sold at auctions in New Zealand during the first six months of the present season —including the Invercargill sale this week —was 43d per lb, or 3d down on the same period last year, said the Wool Board.
The quantity was up from 556.000 bales to 626,000. The weight of wool sold before Christmas exerts considerable influence on the outcome of the final average for the season. This year the average price has risen steadily since the beginning of the season. Last year it was declining. A fairly violent price fall would be required to alter radically the present average and there is general oj imism that the final average will be slightly above last year’s 42.1 d.
