Controlling Computers
With the introduction of computer control of pay, stores and staff records in the New Zealand services, a new trade is emerging for women —data processing. The data processors operate electronic accounting machines, which keep a record of transactions and prepare a punched tape to be fed into a computer. The R.N.Z.A.F. already has these electronic machines in operation and recently a group of members of the Women’s Royal Army Corps attended a course at Te Rapa, followed by practical experience at the Port Depot, Auckland. They have now begun preparations to introduce a similar system in the Army.
