Award Breach Alleged
The secretary of the Canterzury Retail Shop Assistants’ Union (Mr P. M. Velvin) yesterday said that retail store premises open till 9.30 p.m. on Christmas Eve did not comply with an award provision.
The provision, he said, required the proprietors to advise the union of any change in the hours of work. Mr Velvin said that the Canterbury-Westland Retailers’ Association had notified that the closing hour to be observed by shops on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve would bo 9 pm.
