Bonnard Works In Exhibition
(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.)
LONDON, Dec. 23.
An exhibition of works by a French artist, Pierre Bonnard, at the Royal Academy next month is being insured for the unprecedented sum of £9,000,000. The premium alone is costing £40,000. Some of the paintings have been lent by seven of the world’s richest men Paul Getty, Stavros Niarchos, Charles Clore, Sir Isaac Wolfson, Walter Chrysler, Paul Mellon and Henry Ford. Bonnard, a post-Impression-ist, died in 1947, aged 80. His wife had a passion for cleanliness and many of his most characterise ■ works show her either in the bath or at a washbasin.
