TELEPHONE GREETINGS
Businessman Appalled
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, Dec. 26. A British industrialist, Mr Leonard Matcham, wanted to ring his office in Sydney last Thursday on a £1,000,000 export deal, said the "Daily Mail.”
He found the telephone lines to Australia booked for several days with people exchanging Christmas greetings. At his home in Jersey, Mr Matcham, who is chairman of Cope Allman Engineering, said: “It is appalling that the country’s business is held up so that people can say happy Christmas. After all its just a normal business day.” The Post Office said that there was no priority for business calls between Britain and Australia.
