Sydney Solicitors Fined For Misconduct

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Dec. 20. Two solicitors were today fined a total of £250 after being found guilty of professional misconduct involving their trust accounts. In fining them, the statutory committee of the New South Wales Incorporated Law Institute also ordered them to pay £ll6B costs of the investigations. They are: Aubrey Frederick Crawley, of Sydney, and Henry Randall Hoare, of Strathfield. The committee directed that their practising certificates would be suspended unless the fines and costs Were paid. The committee consisted of three solicitors, Messrs H. Morgan (chairman), W. E. C. Francis and J. O. Maddox. The committee said it was

alleged Crawley lent monies he held on trust for Miss Ada Cook, of Old Toongabbie, without her authority and contrary to her instructions. Crawley had borne a good character and suffered ill health. Crawley was fined £l5O and ordered to pay £689 costs. Hoare, the committee said, had improperly used trust funds and paid money belonging to one client for the benefit of another client on more than one occasion. The committee said it did not appear Hoare’s conduct was for personal gain and that any shortage in trust funds had been made good. Hoare was fined £lOO and ordered to pay £429 costs. Mr C. Darvall (for Hoare) said the amounts would be paid today.
