Seeking Frigate

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 20. The New Zealand Government has made a fresh request to Britain for the loan of a frigate. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said tonight that a telegram had been sent to the British Prime Minister (Mr Wilson), “reminding him” of the request “We made a fresh request because it Is a matter of urgency,” Mr Holyoake said.

Britain's offer of the frigate, HJMX Whitby, was turned down by New Zealand when it wm discovered that the ship would require an extensive refit. Mr Holyoake said the Government had not approached the United States Government for the loan of a warship.
