Mail Rush Is Near Its Peak
The Christmas mail rush approached its peak yesterday as thousands of people jammed the Chief Post Office to buy stamps and post letters. Postal officials said business at the counters was exceptionally heavy and consistent throughout the day. On Sunday sorters handled 224,000 pieces of mail posted at boxes throughout the city over the week-end. The night clearance on Sunday night brought in 93,000 articles. The sorters were reported to be well abreast of postings.
