Obituary MR J. W. Shaw
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Mr J. W. Shaw, one of New Zealand’s best-known racing journalists, died suddenly at his home in New Lynn on Saturday night. He was 54. Mr Shaw had been racing editor of the Auckland Star for about the last nine years. His father, the late Mr J. Shaw, filled the same position for many years. Mr Shaw began his career with “The Star.” Afterwards he spent several years with the “Evening Post,” Wellington.
After serving in the Pacific during the Second World War, he accepted a position with a South African newspaper. He rejoined “The Star” about 1951. Mr Shaw was a former president of the Racing Writers' Association. He is survived by his wife.
