RUBBISH IN PIGEON BAY
Concern By Parents Parents at Pigeon Bay have expressed concern at the number of accidents suffered by their children while swimming in the bay. A letter from the Pigeon Bay School Association dealt with by the Akaroa County Council said that during last month three children bad suffered injuries serious enough to require first aid by the teacher and later, in two cases, the attention of a doctor. The association claimed that the injuries could be attributed to the proximity of the rubbish dump to the area where the children had their swimming periods. The association asked the council to prohibit further dumping of rubbish in the bay. “Apart from the unsightliness of the dump, one resident at least has complained that it is responsible for the large number of rats which invade his property,” the letter said. The council decided to ask the association to suggest some way of overcoming the problem of rubbish dumping.
