Married 50 Years
Mr and Mrs W. J. B. McDowell, who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Wednesday, will be holding a celebration and family reunion at their home at Hinds this week-end. The bridesmaid and best man will be present. They were married at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on December 15, 1915, by the Rev. W. T. Todd. Mrs McDowell’s maiden name was Dorothea Agnes Muckle.
Until his retirement Mr McDowell was the blacksmith at Hinds, where he had lived all his life. He was secretary of the local amateur athletics association and the football club for many years and was secretary of the Hinds Gymkhanah Committee until recent years. Mrs McDowell was a foundation member of the Country Women's Institute and is still a keen gardener. Mr and Mrs McDowell, who are aged 75, enjoy comparatively good health.
