AIRLINE ‘DEAD’

(N.Z. Prera Auociation) AUCKLAND, Dec. 19. “South Pacific Airlines of New Zealand is dead,” the airline’s general-manager (Captain R. D. Daniel) said yesterday. Captain Daniel said the Government’s failure to come up with an alternative policy to a monopoly by the N.A.C. spelled the end of S.P.A.N.Z. “There Is a possibility there is still interest in another company taking over S.P.A.N.Z. as a going concern, but in the light of the Government's attitude this interest will die," Captain Daniel said

“The N.A.C. Frankenstein will proceed unfettered. We won’t try anything else. This has killed any possible chance of S.P.A.N.Z. continuing." Friday’s Government caucus studied proposals which would enable a company to continue in the place of S.P.A.N.Z. But the Prime Minister (Mr Hdlyoake) later said that S.P.A.N.Z. had reached the point where the Government was not justified in further backing it
