CHASED YOUTHS
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 19 A milkman and a baker making their deliveries in Papakura early yesterday heard a crash of breaking glass—and found a couple of youths knocking in a jeweller's plate glass window with a hammer. They gave chase for about 100 yards, but the youths made a get-away in a car driven by a third person. Nothing was stolen from the shop. The milkman, Mr L. Murie, of Papatoetoe. and the baker, Mr T. Mannix, of Runciman, were chatting in a shop doorway about 2 a.m. when they heard the sound of breaking glass. “We saw these two youths at a window about 50 yards away. One was raining blows on the glass with a hammer,” said Mr Mannix. “We both ran towards them, but they saw us coming and took off. “A blue and white Zephyr met them and drove off south.”
