Algeria Breaks With Britain
(N.Z. Press Association— Copyright? ALGIERS, Dec. 19. Algeria last evening became the ninth African state to break with Britain over Rhodesia.
The others are the Sudan, Guinea, Tanzania, Ghana, Mauritania, Egypt, Mali, and the Congo (Brazzaville). The delayed decision came after a special meeting last evening of the Algerian Cabinet immediately upon President Boumedienne's return from a five-day visit to Moscow. The break is not expected to affect consular, economic or cultural relations between the two countries. Algeria’s State-owned third
trans-Sahara pipeline, built by a British company and supported by the British Government, is already finished. The British Embassy has delivered a note to the Foreign Ministry asking Algeria to co-operate in enforcing oil sanctions against Rhodesia. Algeria's North African neighbour, Libya, has already declared an oil embargo. Most Sahara oil goes to France making enforcement of an Algerian embargo difficult
