SIBERIAN OIL
Rich Field Claimed (N.Z. Press, Assn.—Copyright) MOSCOW, Dec. 19. “Pravda” today announced discovery in western Siberia of the Soviet oil industry’s richest oil and gas fields. The Government newspaper claimed the known and estimated oil reserves in the region could supply Russia’s major economic centres. Tlje article by Dr. Ivan Karyagin was quoted by the Soviet news agency, Tass. Dr. Karyagin urged immediate plans for a new oil pipeline and 9 new railway line to handle the volume of oil coming out of Western Si beria by 1971. Siberia, he said, would become the country’s main oil producer.
