Planning And Traffic
Sir,—Stark concrete slabs, even as bases for flower beds, may or may not have some slight aesthetic appeal to a minority. A much more valuable use for city triangles is the recent practical suggestion to move the footpath and taxi rank six feet into the triangle, and build a bus and taxi passenger shelter. Taxis must be freely and immediately available, but by telephone from their own offstreet premises, not by monopolising in increasing numbers our fast disappearing street parking spaces. These measures would aid traffic flow and reduce congestion.— Yours, etc. SETH NEWELL. December 18, 1965.
