Vietnam Medal
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 19. New Zealand’s troops in South Vietnam will be awarded the 1962 General Service Medal with the “South Vietnam” clasp after a qualifying period in the war theatre. The Minister of Defence (Mr Eyre) announced in a statement made this morning that the Queen had approved the award. “Under this approval,'* said Mr Eyre, “members of the New Zealand Vietnam force —like those of Australian forces in the area—will qualify for the award of the medal with clasp provided they meet the conditions laid down.” The Minister said the qualifying conditions for the award would be published as soon as they were available.
