N.C. JERSEY CATTLE SHOW

Good Entries For Today’s Event Although entries do not rhnt those tor the show held as put of world Jersey conference in New Zealand last year, the twelfth Canter-

bury Jersey cattle show at Rangtora today has attracted a very satisfactory entry. Well in excess of 100 entries have been received tor the show, organised by the North Canterbury Jersey CMtle Club at the Rangiora Showgrounds. All leading North Canterbury breeders will be represented and the quality will be high, with several outstanding cows entered, including those that have taken major honours in the North Island. The entries include 45 tnmilk cows. Although the bull classes are not strong numerically the quality is expected to be high, however. Futurity Stakes Associated with the show will be the North Canterbury club’s Futurity Stakes for five-year-old cows, which are judged on both production and type. Of the four finalists, two have already qualified for the maximum of 100 points for production, while another is only three points off.

The two with full marks for production are Mr F. W. Hansen's Lilac Grove Pendant and Mr R. J. M. Millar’s Aidershot Carole, which won a similar competition held by the Midland Club in conjunction with the Canterbury metropolitan show. Champion and reserve champion awards will be made for females and males, with similar awards being made for yearlings. Although they will not be exhibiting three Southland breeders have advised that they will be attending the show, which is a “shop window event” for the breed. The last show created considerable - interest amongst the overseas visitors at the world conference at the beginning of the year. Mr J. W. Singers, Hamilton, is expected to begin judging at 10 a.m. and the award for the champion cow should be made about midday.
