JAMBOREE STAMP

Details Of Design Details of a special stamp to commemorate the fourth national scout jamboree were given by the Chief Postmaster (Mr J. W. Lincoln) yesterday. The stamp will be placed on sale on January 5. Its denomination to 4d. The stamp will depict an arrowhead motif, symbolic of progress, superimposed on a pattern of diamonds coloured dark green. The outline of the arrowhead to coloured old gold. The words “Progress Jamboree Scouts New Zealand” and the year, 1966, appear eround the edges of the design. The lettering and the denomination, too, are in dark green. The panel surround also includes sections of traditional tuku tuku panel design known as poutama. The usual flrst-day-of-issue rubber canceller service will be available at the chief offices at Auckland, Christchurch. Dunedin and Wellington. In addition, a special pictorial date stamp will be used on January 5 only at the progress jamboree temporary office at Trentham.

Mr Lincoln said persons outside the four main centres who wished to have covers marked with the rubber canceller should forward their remittances and addressed envelopes to the chief postmaster, Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, or Wellington, with a request that the envelopes be cancelled with the rubber canceller.

Requests for cancellation with the pictorial date stamp should be sent to the Chief Postmaster, Wellington. A servicing fee of 2d for each cover should be included in the amount of the remittance and the outside cover or wrapping should be marked “covers for cancellation with handcanceller (or pictorial date stamp) on January 5.” First-day-of-issue slogans will be used at the chief post offices, Auckland, Christchurch. Dunedin and Wellington. Residents outside the four main centres wishing to have coven marked with the slogans should follow the procedure outlined above. Requests for the rubber canceller, the pictorial date stamp, or the flrst-day-of-issue machine canceller service should reach the chief postmaster concerned by December 21.
