Stranded Cars Retrieved
(N.Z. Preu Aetoeiation) HASTINGS, December 14. Ten cars stranded on an island in the TuHtuki river, at Undercliff, Havelock North, on Saturday night were driven out late yesterday afternoon. The cars had had to be left by the members of a high school barbecue party when the shingle causeway leading to the island was washed away by a flash flood. The contractors taking shingle out of the river, renewed a dam upstream which diverted the main flow of the river, and rebuilt the causeway yesterday.
