TOURISM IN FIJI
Help Sought To Build Motels (N.Z Preet AMOclattonl WELLINGTON, Dec; 14. The Mayor of Lautoka, Fiji, Mr R. A. Patel, whose main interest is the development of tourism, said today that he was looking to New Zealand for assistance in financing motels at Nandi and other centres.
Mr Patel, a merchant, Is visiting city council members in Wellington and Auckland to study local government affairs. He is also renewing acquaintance with members of the Chamber of Commerce and the Manufacturers Federation, bankers and travel agents. He intends to return to New Zealand early next year with a trade delegation.
Describing himself as a “moderate," Mr Patel, who is 38, has strong views on Fiji’s political future, and in his opinion the development of the country on multi-racial lines is essential, with political parties representing all races on a common basis, instead of the present racial grouping. Since he left Fiji on December 9, Mr Patel has been reelected mayor.
