Writing to the Mosgiel School tills week, Mr Powell says: “It is with pleasure that I write to thank you and the other young people in your class at West School for your thoughtfulness in sending the cheque for the orphaned children of South Vietnam.
“I am forwarding the money to Ambassador Lodge at the United States Embassy in Saigon, informing him of your desire that it be given to an orphanage in South Vietnam. The children who benefit from your gift will be told that it comes from your school."
