MOVE TO BUY PROPERTY
Redeveloping Ricearton Now was the time to buy properties for redevelopment rather than have long-term plans frustrated by the activities of "spec" builders, said Or. R. W. J. Harrington, at last night's Ricearton Borough Council meeting. He said the finance committee believed that the council should buy a number of adjacent old houses. This would allow of a better type of redevelopment than was being done now in piecemeal fashion. Or. Harrington recalled the Mayor (Mr E. J. Bradshaw) had suggested in October that the council should consider the redevelopment of older parts of the borough. Cr. F. W. Gilbert said the council was expecting a report from its town planning consultant (Miss N. Northcroft). The council could consider it with the question of multi-storey development. The council decided to have its town planning committee consider possible solutions, such as the aimalgamation of smaller-sized sections, and the provision of better type houses and flats to achieve a more economic use of land. i
