FERRYMEAD BRIDGE
Contract For £105,600
The only tender received for the new Ferrymead bridge was £105,600 by the Wilkins and Davies Construction Company, Ltd., the City Council was told by its works and services committee last evening. It accepted the tender. The committee reported that the tender was tagged subject to increases in labour, material, and services costs. The bridge was in a location and had a length that meant that little use could be made of pre-cast components. It was, therefore, designed in in-situ pre-stressed concrete, with rather high costs resulting from falsework and boxing. Alternatives were investigated during the design. The tender was higher than expected, the committee said, but there was little likelihood of a better price being obtained.
The contract requires the work to be completed by July, 1967.
