TAFFY, THAMES CUP FORM RUNNER

“The Frees" Special Service AUCKLAND. Taffy seems sure to be a strong favourite for the Thames Trotting Cup, the first leg of the T.A.B. double at Alexandra Park tomorrow night.

He has had two wins and a second in his last four starts and is a grand stayer. On the first night of the Thames meeting on November 27, Taffy gave a splendid performance in winning the Members’ Handicap, 13 furlongs and 96 yards, in fast time.

He finished very determinedly and beat the highly regarded Herby Tryax narrowly. Others in the field included full sovereign and Thunder Royal, two of his rivals in the Thames Trotting Cup. Both Full Sovereign and Thunder Royal gave him 24 yards. Taffy should beat them again because he meets them on the same terms this week. It to likely, however, that John Dee wifi ba tough to boat. He has shown outstanding form this season, his five starts having produced three firsts, a second and a third. John Dee has won more impressively each Ume and there is little doubt he will soon graduate to the best Auckland class. His handicap of 24 yards is not as severe as it looks as he is usually a brilliant beginner. The forecast is for continued fine weather and the track will be fast.
