Deladana’s Brilliant Half-mile In Training

If Deladana did not leave her race on the training track yesterday morning she could take beating in the H. A. Knight Memorial Handicap, second leg of the Hororata Racing Club’s T.A.B. double at Riccarton tomorrow.

There is nothing unusual about Deladana running a fast gallop in training. Her raceday performances are not always up to the same standard but yesterday’s effort showed that she has reached a high peak of fitness. Deladana (E. G. Low) was accompanied by her stablemate Messmaid (F. H. Skelton) in their trial on the grass. Near the end Messmaid was being hard-ridden to keep abreast but that was hardly surprising for they had come from the half-mile in 47 4-ssec.

Galloping took place under ideal conditions. The big trial grass provided firm footing but most trainers preferred to use the plough for their fast work.

Chariborough (R. B. Taggart) could have earned himself favouritism for the L. Derrett Hack Handicap when he ran an outstanding mile in company with Hawkins (B. D. Collins). They took Imin 42 l-ssec and ran home from the half in 50 3-ssec. At the end Chariborough was a length clear and still going well.

General Gilbert (J. Kerkvllet) shaped well in a solo six furlongs. He sped over the first two In 24 l-ssec and completed the distance in lmin 16sec. It was a sound trial for tomorrow’s open sprint. Maiden Rivals You Tue (D. Tucker) was abreast of Mondy (F. H. Skelton), four lengths ahead of Dajelema (G. W. Mein) and six lengths ahead of Clive Bank (R. K. Moir) after five furlong* in lmin 2sec, the final half-mile in 48 2-ssec. You Tue, Dajelema and Clive

Bank are engaged in the Trial Plate. Walhalla (M. Bailey) and Mister Bud (P. J. Daly) ran in from the half-mile in 49 2-ssec. The two-year-olds, Faraday (C. T. Wilson) and Sleeky Fox (D. N. Hadfield) sprinted home from the three furlongs together in 36 2-s«ec. They will be rivals in the Haldon Handicap. Danny Kaye (G. W. Mein) and Seminole (A. R. Swanson) kept together while running the last four of five furlongs in 50 4-ssec, the final three in 38 3-ssec.

Stageland (G. W. Mein) worked evenly over six furlongs. He took lmin 20 l-ssec and ran both three-furlong sections in 39 8-s*ec. On The Plough All the other fast work took place on the plough. Chatsgay (A. H. Eastwood), which went easily In hie semifinal trial for the Hororata Cup on Tuesday, showed a lot more dash yesterday. He ran seven furlongs in lmin 30 3-3 sec, the last half-mile in 50 2-ssec and the final three furlongs in 37 2-ssec. Sir Limond ID. N. Hadfield) started with Chatsgay but was six lengths behind at the finish.

Royal Bid (F. H. Skelton) could have Improved considerably on his lmin 37sec for the last seven furlongs of a mile but he was restrained to keep with Tracey's Comet (Mrs Clutterbuck). Their pace quickened

slightly over the final three furlongs which took 3* 2-ssec. Fit Pair Shakes (G. W. Mein) and Lady York <C. T. Wilson) reeled off seven furlongs in lmin 30sec. the last half-mile in 4* 4-ssec and the last three furlongs in 38 4-ssec. They are flt Hororata Cup rivals. Golden Vanity (N. T.
