Worst ’Quake For Five Years

WELLINGTON, Dec. 9. New Zealand waa today shaken by its worst earthquake for five years.
The 'quake was centred 190 miles beneath the Bay of Plenty and about 40 miles north of Whakatane. It was felt throughout the North Island and in a few northern districts of the South
Island. No damage was reported.
It registered a magnitude of •I on the ricMer scale. Tbe earthquake was the lara ara«-». the Seismological Observatory, Wellington, Dr. HL Adsmt, It jws a large earthquake. * he said.
