RACING Carester In Line For Grey mouth Win

Carester and Wester, two of the stock of Red Jester, might battle out the finish of the Telegraph Handicap, second leg of the T.A.B. double at Omoto today.

Both have sharp early speed, and good form over seven furlongs, the distance of the open sprint on the first day of the Greymouth Jockey Club’s meeting.

Carester has not raced since the North Canterbury two-day meeting at Labour week-end, when she was runner-up to Vivien Robe in both open sprints. Vivien Robe has since won at Hokitika, giving added value to Rangiora form—form that took on much value when Fieldmaster won the New Zealand Cup after a victory over the stayers on the second day of the North Canterbury meeting. Riccarton-trained horses in the cup field are Silver Kingdom, General Gilbert, Waverly, Chatsgay, and Prince Callan. Chatsgay and Prince Callan, both from C. McDonald’s stable, will be bracketed. Jet Girl has been scratched from the Omoto Haek Handicap, and Cadiz’s close relation, So Lovely, may now be favourites. Rossetti has been taken out of both maiden races.
