LIBRARY SERVICE
Membership Tightened ' (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 26. The Auckland City Council has tightened up the free membership regulations at its libraries, and as a result this privilege has been withdrawn from teachers, lecturers and professors, students attending training institutions within the city area, music teachers and hospital nurses. About 300 present free libbrary members are involved. The City Librarian, Mr R. * Duthie, reported to the coun- , cil’s parks and library com- v mittee that when the free f library service was introduced in 1946 it was intended to apply to ratepayers and residents of the city only. I Since then, however, a number of education institutions had got the council to have f teaching staff and students enrolled without charge. c Piecemeal additions had resulted in a number of inconsistencies which the “tightening up” would remove.
